The eCommerce development plan shifted to Laravel after a review of Shopify restrictions affecting vaping products, payment services, and sales channels.
United Kingdom, August 2026 – A UK-based vape retailer has selected Jeel Techsoft for custom Laravel eCommerce development, following a review that led the business to move away from its initially proposed Shopify setup. The decision was driven by the need for an eCommerce platform better suited to the operational requirements of selling vaping and nicotine-related products online.
The technology review became particularly important following Shopify policy updates affecting merchants selling Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems and related products. Shopify restrictions applicable to this category can affect services available to merchants, including Shopify Payments and the Shop sales channel. These limitations became a key consideration when assessing whether Shopify could support the retailer’s long-term eCommerce requirements.
Rather than continuing with a platform that could create limitations around important commerce services, the development plan was revised before implementation.
Established in 2013, the retailer sells e-liquids, vape kits, devices, accessories, and other vaping products to adult customers throughout the UK. Alongside its online operations, the business has physical shops in Hampstead and Richmond and also supplies products to other retailers.
The initial project discussion focused on developing an online store using Shopify. During planning, however, Jeel Techsoft reviewed the retailer’s product catalogue, payment requirements, sales model, and the services the website would need to support.
That assessment identified a broader requirement than simply building an online storefront. The retailer needed greater control over its technology, integrations, payment provider options, and future development.
As a result, Jeel Techsoft recommended changing the development approach from Shopify to a custom Laravel-based eCommerce platform.
The Laravel development will provide greater flexibility around product management, checkout architecture, customer accounts, third-party integrations, payment provider integration, retail and wholesale requirements, and future functionality. The custom architecture will also allow individual service providers to be evaluated according to the retailer’s product category and business requirements.
The change in technology does not remove the company’s responsibilities as a retailer of regulated products. Applicable UK regulations, age-related requirements, payment provider policies, and other relevant obligations will continue to apply. Suitable third-party providers will therefore need to be assessed and approved independently.
Snehal Patel will lead the project, overseeing the technical implementation and coordination of the Laravel development.
Maulik Masrani, CEO of Jeel Techsoft, said, “For businesses operating in regulated eCommerce categories, choosing a platform cannot be based only on features or development convenience. Product policies, payment options, third-party services, and long-term control all need to be considered. Reviewing these factors early helped us identify that a custom Laravel approach was more appropriate for this retailer’s requirements.”
The partnership demonstrates why technology selection should be treated as a business decision rather than simply a development preference. By identifying platform constraints before development progressed, the retailer was able to change direction before becoming dependent on an unsuitable setup.
Jeel Techsoft provides custom web development, Laravel development, eCommerce development, UI and UX design, and digital marketing services for businesses across international markets.
